Feeling Overwhelmed? Here’s Your One Easy Fix

stop feeling overwhelmed Jumpstart Monday | Get your week off to a great start with the Day-Timer blog. Each Monday we’re going to feature a new tip to help you gain a more productive week at work and at home.
Today’s tip: Stop feeling overwhelmed by doing one thing

You have a lot on your plate. A ton of things to do. So much so that you feel like just throwing in the towel – and it’s only Monday. Sound familiar?

That feeling of being overwhelmed by your responsibilities can easily derail your productivity before you ever even get started.

Here’s the trick to having a productive week when stress sets in:

Try This:

Whenever those stressful feelings come on, make your first task one that you know you can achieve within 30 minutes.

Some examples:

  • Clean off the top of your desk
  • Sort your inbox
  • Review yesterday’s notes
  • Return an email or phone call

Do something achievable. Then, focus your mind on doing one task at a time, one concern at a time, and one thought at a time.

Here’s Why:

Crossing that first item off your list gives you a tremendous sense of achievement. It’s a real motivational push that sets in motion the process of getting stuff done.

Remember: You can’t get anything accomplished until you accomplish that first task. Get it done. Then, move on and conquer things one-by-one. You’ll be amazed how quickly your stress level will dissipate.

Go have a productive week by narrowing your focus to one task at a time!

  1. Good morning Jeff!
I really appreciate the Monday jump start as it quickly reminds me not to slip from planning my week before the start of a new week. It allows me to focus on my goals and myself. By the end of the week I feel a sense of achievement! It feels so good and I feel in control of my life as I know I am getting closer to my goals. Slowly but surely.

I look forward to hearing from you and once again thank you so much!
