Believe it or not, there is a fairly easy way to save calories that won’t make you hungrier, yet it can significantly help you to shed pounds. Most people cook with oil, whether it is olive oil, canola oil or safflower oil, believing that they are benefiting their health. They think that since oil is heart-healthy, it is good for them and won’t cause them to gain weight. Surprisingly, although olive oil and canola oil are healthy oils and good for your heart, as they won’t clog your arteries, they actually affect your weight and your waistline the same way that heavy lard, butter and cream do!

All fats provide nine calories per gram, making them extremely calorie-dense. Many people simply pour oil into their pans when they are cooking, believing they’re doing their body’s good. Although they are not adding artery-clogging butter to their meals, every tablespoon that they pour is giving them an additional 120 extra calories, which come from pure fat! The average health-conscious person simply pours oil into their pan when they are cooking chicken, meat, vegetables, rice or soup, not realizing that the oil is adding anywhere from 300 to 700 extra calories to their dish. Little do they know that if they do this every day, they are adding one-quarter to three-quarters of a pound of body fat to their bodies each week!

If you are suddenly feeling stunned because you pour oil in your pan when you cook, don’t worry, here’s a couple of ways for you to save a lot of calories…
If you typically use olive oil or canola oil, or any other oil, buy a cooking spray, like Pam, that is flavored like the oil that you typically use. It may take a couple of days to adjust to the slight taste change, but it will be worth it, and you won’t be any hungrier, as oil doesn’t really help to fill you.

If you simply don’t like the idea of using cooking spray, then take your favorite oil and put it in a spray bottle and spray a very small amount in your pan. The spray will help to really disperse the oil, significantly cutting calories, as a little bit of oil goes a long way. Try these calorie-saving tactics and watch the excess fat on your body melt away!
